when, where, how?
Here are some details…
Date and Time:
The Grand Rapids Toy and Comic Expo will be held in the Homeschool Building down on the southwest end of town, on Saturday, March 28th, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with some "preferred buyers" having early access to the vendors to get, I presume, special chances to obtain key wares or prime deals.
The location address is as follows:
5625 Burlingame Ave. SW
Wyoming, MI, 49509
Building Phone: (616) 532-9422
I believe the expo will be held in the auditorium.
The only active contact information that I have for the show is their phone number:
A Facebook page exists for the expo, though it seems to remain somewhat out of date—but you can find it, nevertheless, here:
I was told on the phone that the show's website is:
That's what I was told…
…but it appears that the site has been inexplicably replaced by a highly unrelated Japanese one with a photo of a woman taking a luxurious bath.
…is all I can say to that.
Though I've searched for fan/buyer admittance fee level, I actually haven't found that information anywhere. Suffice it to say that it must be less that dealer booth/table costs, which is $30, a remarkably good price, I might add…
With a reported turnout range of 1,500 to 2,500 people, I've got to say that the table cost to attendee ratio is amazing for me as a booth holder… I paid three times that for a show in Toronto with an eighth as few people coming out.
Animus: Where Can We Be Found?
Since I just out about this in the last week, I was just able to squeeze in, and haven't received a map of the convention floor, and where I'll be located.
Journal: on my preparation
What I need to do to prepare. (Let's not pretend that I have my act all together. Oh no.)
I need to physically prepare:
Hmmm… I should:
Gather together, pens, paper for e-mail lists, get the money box ready, find the table cloth and the banner. Get and load boxes of comics… Especially those that I have already signed… And I should probably sign more… I should probably also pack some food for breakfast, lunch and snacks, along with some water. Hand sanitizer, for shaking all those hands, wouldn't hurt to…
Remembering to create an unlisted YouTube video to feature the music from the comic book's accompanying CD, is important—along with some pre-written cards with the link written on them.
In the midst of this, I have to make sure to have my fee amount with me so I can actually reserve my table.
Yup. Lots to do.
I need to mentally prepare:
A sense of calm and peace. I haven't been to a con in a while, and I've been doing things so different, that I'm a bit nervous about it all. Fear not, child. That's what I have to say to myself.
In that vibration, I'll leave you with a song from the one and only Malukah—whose geek inspired music has made her an amazing indy success story. (Yes, it would be cool if she was at this con. No, she's not going—not as far as I know.)
See you tomorrow, and bye for now!
